Vyatka Paleontological Museum

Vyatka Paleontological Museum is a unique place where you can see a six-meters long Tarbosaurus skeleton.

Besides, a lot of other skeletons of dinosaurs, sea-bound and flying lizards are presented. Some of them were found and reconstructed by the museum workers.
In summer  anyone can join "Dino-tours" on territory of Kotelnich and help scientists with excavation. It is a kind of expedition with living in tents and large cultural program.

The area near Kotelnich was under the water millions years ago. The Sea grew shalow, then deepened, it was inhabited by seaweed invertebrates and fish. Some groups were replaced by others. Museum windows show a variety of skeletal remains of Paleozoic brachiopods, cnidarians, mollusks, echinoderms, bryozoans, fish and other groups. Museum collection contains some unique finds, which have no analogs in the world.

The most valuable items are pareiasaur skeletons, some preserved so well that no one will believe they are 260MYO. Just take a look at their teeth that are so smooth they seem to greet us with a weird smile. The creatures one sees in the Permian hall trod on the ground long before dinosaurs: Pareiasaur, Dicinodont, Therocephalia, Gorgonops to name a few of them that have been found nearby Kotelnich.

All the visitors can take part in dino’s  excavation. You can use a brush to find  a Mayasaura skeleton from Canada in a sandbox, where it is buried.
